I was working up in the north part of the county today and took some back roads home. I saw a w-4 with an Allied loader on it, now that isn't necessarily weird but I have seldom seen a loader on a w-4. I couldn't see if there was an extra reservoir and pump attached but I have seen power steering units off of autos used with an extra reservoir to run a front loader. The loader looked to be in good shape, but I'm still curious, that's a squat tractor for a loader, by that I mean low to the ground. Any one loading with a w-4? Mike in Exeter Ontario

My brother in law adapted a loader off a 8N Ford to his (previously my Dad's) W-4. He had to widen the frame a few inches, but it looks and works pretty slick now. He changed it from a trip style to full hydraulic with up and down pressure and a cylinder running the bucket. He powers it with a live pump off the front of the engine, thru the crank hole.

When I was a youngster (18 or so) growing up in North Dakota, I worked for a fellow who's brother owned a WD-6 and had a Farmhand loader on it. They were a large frame loader that were built in Hopkins, MN (Minneapolis suburb) and I'm fairly certain that they are no longer in business. They were a very popular loader in their time (1950s).

55,

Farmhand is alive and well; it is owned by AGCO now tho. Like everyone else, they have moved to the front hangers.

My father has a 1952 W-4 with a loader. He got it from IH dealer in mid 50"s, works great, has live hydro. [pump is in front of dist.Tank is infront of clutch]. Still use"s it. It"s a heavy duty loader for what we would call a fairly small tractor today. From Campbellford [on the trent river] in ONT. Canada. PS. He also has 2 more W-4"s, W-6, WD-6, WD-9,Farmall SM, 400 Farmall, and a Super W-4 All RED all the way baby . Big "E"
