Just bought a farmall 450 for 1,400 dollars, Good buy but found out from the owner that the motor was slightly stuck meaning that this happened to him before and he just poured in a little diesel fuel and loosened it up before. I bought it cause I was told not to let a deal like that get past me but after soaking the pistons with pb blaster and then with tranny fluid I still can"t get it to move. I took the oil pan off and felt up into the sleeves and the only ones with a little scaley rust are the two middle pistons. The rust is only on one side of the sleeves. Is there anything I can do short of pulling off the head and beating on the pistons with a block of wood and sledge hammer. I need help. Also the motor has freshly been rebuilt and is nice and clean except for this problem. Thanks for your help

I would loosen the rod and main bearing caps. I used tranny juice on a stuck Farmall A and I got
it apart. The head was already off when I bought
the tractor.

I have seen postings on here to jack up one rear wheel and put the transmission in high gear and then rock the wheel. I've never did this, but it may work. Water may have entered the cylinders
through the exhaust if the tractor was unsheltered. I used a piece of 2X2 maple to drive out the pistons. I only used the old rods
and a new sleeve kit.

You may need to do this to inspect the sleeves and pistons if the engine can not be freed. Hal

I have a Super M. Same thing. It was just enough rust on the cylinder walls below the rings to get the piston stuck. Don't waste your time with other stuff. Pull the head and put the pistons out the top. Take a wire wheel that is just big enough to fit in the sleeve. Just wire brush it out and hone it. Put the pistons right back in. If the front and back are ok just leave them in. Make sure to watch where the crank is at while doing this so you don't get crude in the oil holes. My dad is a mechanic and I was on a low budget just to see if the rearend was good on my tractor. I have been pulling with it ever since and am beating a guy with a new engine kit. If you have any questions email me. I'll be happy to help.

Freshly rebuilt and stuck? Sounds like shoddy assembly work. I would bet that you will find BIG problems when you take off the rod or main bearing caps.

Well since you have tried the PB, and the tranny fluid, there is one more thing you can try short of takeing it apart. Fill each cylinder with turpentine, not paint thinner but the good old gum spirits of turpentine. If its going to brake free it will with the turpentine on top of the other things you have done.

Take off valve cover and loosen rocker arm assembly might be a stuck valve locking you up.It"s worth a try and easier than pulling the head.

Another tip. While you have the rocker arms loose, knock out the center of an old spark plug and braze an air fitting to it and screw it in the head and hook up your air compressor. The air will help force the penatrating fluid down around the piston and rings. The valves have to be closed for this to work. Good luck!
