There is a guy selling a 1993 NH rake & tedder combo, three point. Any of you boys ever have this or use this now ? I have a good NH 56 and a Duetz Farr tedder, so I don't really need it but it would be nice to have one thing do both or just have a back up plan. Thanks.

I own a NH 255 which is the tedder rake combo you speak of. The 254 was similar but pre 1994 version. It is a 2 rotor tedder that rakes or teds from 10 to 13 feet wide. It works by adjusting a cam under the rotor to change the up and down motion of the teeth. It works very well, adjusts without tools in about 2 minutes. I purchased mine for the convenience of 1 implement and not having to change implements - saves time and back.

John, thanks for the reply. I was told they are not good, by a dealer, says he only sold two in his 15 years, says I could not re-sell it if I did not like it. Most of my 70 acres are off the farm and I need to trailer or drive to the field. My tedder is good, not great, but good. I find the 56 roll bar tends to taffy roll the hay rather than fluff and that make drying hard. It is ok, and has worked for years, but I now own a Kuhn disc mower, three piont, and I might need to ted a bit mow this summer. How do you like the three piont, does she dig in the ground on dips, ever use a chain for th etop link ? This guy says $1,500 for it, what do you think ?

#In terms of windrows, I find it makes nice fluffy high rows, my experience with other rakes is they tend to make the rows flatter and a bit ropy compared to this machine. #The 3 pth does not seem to be a problem with digging or following land contour . the tine angle and height is adjustable (at least on my 255) not 100% sure on the 254.
#I have never used a chain for the top link.
# My 255 was $5700 new (2003). # Overall, this tedder rake combo has worked very well and saved a lot of hay where I live in cold rainy northern Maine (hay is very difficult to make here.
#Reliability? no problems so far, have not used to heavily - 20-25 acres of ted X 2 , rake X1 last 2 years (120 acres total in 2 years).
