Hi Allen. I am back from vaca and been busy, you know. My question is your picture of Steve in Kansas 966, the white looked really white. I have painted the white on my 1066 with IH white and it looks a bit different, more creamy I guess. I am not really crazy about getting it exact, this is a work tractor, not parade but the Rustoleum number was for IH white from their implement line. What do you think ? Thanks and good to e-mail you after some time.

Mornin' John,

Heck, derned if I know. Both of my tractors turned out with the "white" and yes, I think the 'implement' color was a bit of a cream tone. Like the old 350s/450s were.

I leave that stuff to the guy's in at the paint shop; they're a whole bunch smartern' me. :>(

Well,

Seeing as I got the white painted, and I think it looks nice, she will stay that way. I will need this tractor later this month or early June so no time to re-do. I think we may shoot her Tues or Wed this week. I hope, this has been keeping me up at nite thinking about it.

Do you think I should take the rear wheels off the hub to paint, or just try to tape and get around it ? Those wedge look easy but there might be a trick to putting them back on, I guess. Thanks Allen.

Morning Guys, just curious if you are sandblasting before painting? If so it seems you would get better protection down in the rust prone areas of the wheels and under the platform when the wheels are off and can see all those little spots tucked around the brakes and axle mounts etc. A little bit of vasoline around the tire rim edge sure makes the cleanup a fast deal. We are trying to decide whether to paint the 966 now as we got some field time on it the last few weeks and so far it looks like the ole girl wants to be employed yet for awhile. Migraine

Watched the feller who painted my 9. Didn't take a thing off, but was real picky when masking things off.

He started with the black on the axles, then back-masked the axles and painted the whole tractor including the wheels red. Finished up by very carefully doing the aluminum to the rims. Last step was to take some "Bleach-White" sidewall cleaner and a kiwi brush/elbow grease to the tires.

He didn't take one blessed bolt loose and it looks like it came straight from IH.

Well,

I guess I will not take them off, just looks like a lot of extra work to get them dirty in the mud. I like thje vasoline idea on the tires around the rims, so thats what I will do. I will get picture up as soon as I am done. See ya guys.

John, A friend of mine uses crisco. He says it wipes right off and I"d think it would be cheaper than vaseline.
