My students and I are finishing a f-20 in our Advanced Projects class and we are ready to paint. Are only problem right now is trying to find a red that is as close to the original as possible. We had a few pieces that have plenty of old red on them , however I am worried that they are faded. This we feel would make a computer paint scan at one of the auto part stores in our area not bright enough. Can anyone give us a suggestion for a paint number or type that we might be able to pick up at the local international dealer or any other thoughts. We want to be as original as we can. Thanks.

Thanks for the help everyone. We already checked the serial number and she is a late 1937 and should be red.

The best paint is a lot like the best pickup! I have had good luck with Van Sickle, however, others have not. The F-20 with serial number 68749 was the first red one. Smaller numbers were gray. (Van Sickle has a good gray if your serial number is lower than 68749.) Good Luck! PS: Post a picture when your class is done. We all like to look at pictures of tractors.

First are you sure it's supposed to be red? IHC switched from grey to IH50 red with the 1937 model year. Not to start a flame war but TSC/van sickle ect paint stinks, and looks like crap in 6 months. For around $100-150 buy some of ppg's omni line paint and have a paint job that will last 10 years plus. Dupont , napa are also excellent paints they are just costing more in my area. I've added a link to ppg paint codes, you'll be able to get a better match this way than trying to scan in old pieces.

Your local Case-IH dealer will have #2150 Red Rouge on the the shelf. While this is the hue adopted by IH when the 60 series came out in 1958, it will be darned close enough for your F-20. The 2150 is a hair brighter than the old #50.

Now be careful here. I think the change-over year from gray to red was 1936. What year is your F-20?

Stay away from TSC paint. A quart of TSC's Farmall Red is $8.00 here; a quart of #2150 is $12.00. All reds succumb to sunlight eventually. TSC red paint has an express lane to Fadeville.

We have used NAPA FARMALL RED and now use the IH 2150.The 2150 is by far BETTER between the 2 and cheaper to boot.
