ok heres the deal...my voltage regulator has (3) terminals (1) ground which i know which one that is and (1) for connection to the generator and (1) for connecting to the bat. now the generator and bat connection are on each side of a coil with a set of contacts. (1) terminal goes coil side and (1) terminal goes off the contact side. I assume the generator output goes coil side and the contact side goes to bat. anyone have any thoughts???

that sounds like a cutout relay rather than a voltage regulator.

When you shut down your tractor, a set of points in the cutout disconnect so there will be no drain on the battery. You have to control the charge rate by the switch located by the amp meter. L-Low Rate Charge, H- High Rate Charge, D-Dim Lights,B- Bright lights.
