Manifold studs

Forgot to ask in previous post but on both of the 300U heads I have both are missing 2 or 3 studs that hold on the manifold. I tried removing one from the spare head with some vise grips but they are not moving. I didn't come on too hard as I didn't want to break them off. Any tips on getting them out or should I get new studs? Also the long studs on the top of the block that head slides over are loose. Not all but some are not very tight at all. I was thinking of removing them and putting some type of sealer on the threads. What type of sealer should I use?

Thanks!

Sid

Try pipe wernch with sharp teeth. It grips better as you pull.
Could also try heating the block to enlarge the threaded hole.

I would get a set of stud pullers to remove the studs instead of vice grips.

I would use a torch to heat those studs that are seized, then try your vise grips. You may need to install heli-coils if the head studs are loose.
You should check the threads in the block to see if the threads are ok or for any slop when the stud is installed. You need a good tight fit when the stud is installed. You may need to take
the block to your local machine shop to have this done. Hal

Well I got all the head studs out via a pipe wrench and a little PDQ but I broke a manifold stud off flush to the head. Going to try and weld a flat washer around the stud and then a nut on top of that to get it out. See how that goes.

The washer and nut will work. The heat from welding will probably loosen the broken piece, Hal

Any guesses on what PDQ means?
