Does anyone run their Farmall H swinging drawbar on top of the U drawbar with the strap on the bottom? I think I need to have the U drawbar on the second hole (from the back)to fit my mower and if dhe drawbar is on top, the top of it will be about 16" off the ground for other equipment. What do you guys run?? Thanks.

It will wear out faster if on top. It is better to wear out the strap than the draw bar itself. If your strap wears out put a roller on.

I put the swinging drawbar up against a post in the corner of the shed. It never gets in my way when it's not on the tractor.

I remember someone saying that heavy loads should be pulled from the swinging drawbar rather than putting the pressure on the rear axle castings. What is your thought on this? Any problem with damaging the rear castings if pulling from the u-shaped bar? Thanks for your thoughts and experience.

John, While it would be very difficult to break the rear axle housings by hooking up to the "U" bar rather than a swinging drawbar, it is "ALWAYS" best to use the swinging drawbar to pull heavyb loads. Farmall swinging drawbars are designed to assist in holding the front end of the tractor down and thus prevent walking the gears and turning over backwards. If you notice the swinging bar is pivoted well ahead of the rear axle to achieve this end. Also the additional length of the swinging drawbar allows you to make sharp turns without tire interference. I"ve seen wagon tongues, disk harrows and drag sections end up climbing the rear tires because the turning radius is drasticly shortened when hitching to the "U"bar. That extra length that the swinging drawbar provides is crucial in many tasks.

Hi John,

Just my view, but I don't think an H has power enough to hurt itself.

They were just plain "overbuilt" and have lasted all these years because of it.

There is probably only two tractors in the world (my world) that will ever actually wear out the hole in a drawbar. you guesses it, an H and an M. Keep it red and keep it country.
