Rock guards on IH mower

I probably should post this on the implement board, but from past experience I usually do not get as good of a response over there. I have an old IH #31 sickle mower with worn out ledger plates, as well as the rock guards being pretty worn - I suspect most have been on there since dad bought it new back in the mid 50's. It mowed hay every year up until about the mid 80's then sat until last year when I resurrected it for service. I purchased new rock guards from the local farm chain store, (on sale for 2.97 each). I happened to notice they had that infamous "made in china" sticker on them. Am I in for disappointment, or will they work ok. I also bought some new wear plates as well, but they appear to be US made quality parts. I plan on mowing approx. 30 acres this year with it if all goes well. I considered replacing the ledger plates on my old IH guards, but for the $$ I took the easy way out. Anyone have any experience with these?

FC, I think I bought the same rockguards as you. I rebuilt an old 16A rear mount mower for my 42A about 3 years ago. I mowed about 10 acres with it for 2 years and they held up fine! I also bought a new cutter bar fron Case IH for about $70 if I recall. And I think I got some aftermarket holdowns also. Last year I started using a bushhog behind another diesel tractor I own because I wasnt baling, and the bar was plugging from previous cuts. But I thought for the price, not bad on those rockguards. You might try retightening those rockguards after a trip around the field!
