i recently purchased a c farmall serial no. 48875..and it has white paint under the red paint..i have asked a few people and was told that if a true demo tractor it would have the letter d in the serial no. but others say they were painted that way at the dealership so there is no way to prove it is or isnt?..can any of you shed some light on this for me pls...also how much more would it be worth if it is a demo?..tires and rims like new sheet metal straight and engine loose but not running as of yet it has n/f also..thanks in advance for your advice

George and Wayne are correct. The ONLY difference in the white demos and the red tractors is the change of paint on the production line. IMO it is worth no more than a couple of hundred more in its current condition. Restored, it depends on who is buying it. It is part of IH history, that's the only reason to pay a little more for it. I repainted a C that was originally white (red when I bought it) red, because I want to keep it and simply don't like white. Other opinions differ.

White isn't so bad if you have a few red ones to use. I have 10 red Cubs, and of course, the rusty one, "Scruffy". Scruffy gets used a lot.

You're getting your information from poor sources. There would be no "D" in the serial number, and all true white demonstrators were painted white at the Louisville factory. Some leftover H and M models were painted white by the dealers, but they aren't regarded as true demonstrators.

All C's were made in Louisville -- Anyway most of the main castings will have an "L" on them, either right side up or upside down.

The "accepted" range of C demo serial numbers is 47010-54411. It would appear yours is in the "group".
