Head Gasket problems

I have an International 240 utility and the head gasket was leaking on the right hand side when sitting on it. It was leaking oil, very little. I was rebuilding the oil pump so I thought that I would change that while I had it torn apart. Well, good news is that my oil pressure problem is fixed. Bad news is, it leaks worse now. I guess that is what I get for thinking. The head gasket I got was metal on one side and gasket material on the other. The old one had metal on both sides and gasket material in the middle. Does anybody think that is the problem?? I didn't know if the height difference would do that or not. I did not have the head check out for flatness, I hoped that it was flat since it really didnt' leak that bad to begin with. I recheck the torque on the bolts. Next weekend I think I'll find a head gasket that was like the old one and try that. I ran it for about an hour and the leaking slowed down. Then the next day when I ran it, it was worse.. Any suggestions???? Thanks

Did you coat your gasket with copper coat? You are supposed to. Have your head checked for warpage and cracks and have it resurfaced for a good sealing surface. Torque the head to 80 ft, Lbs. Then run it to get it warmed up and retorque it. It will have loosened up some. Good luck!

Thanks Scott, I was not aware about the copper coating that you are suppose to put on there. I will try a new head gasket and put some of that on there. Thanks for the info.

I'd sure check it out good and make sure it is the gasket leaking and not the block or the head. You might be able to just put a little extra goo on the spot and stop it.
