MY 1066 CLUTCH HAS TO BE LET OUT ALMOST ALL THE WAY UNTIL TRACTOR MOVES FORWARD. THE TRAVEL DISTANCE OF CLUTCH PEDAL IS OUT TO THE LAST 1 INCH BEFORE TRACTOR WILL MOVE. IS THIS A DEFINITE NEED FOR A NEW CLUTCH REPAIR, AND IF SO WHAT IS THE PROBABLE COST OF THIS JOB, OR IS THERE AN ADJUSTMENT THAT WILL MINIMIZE SOME OF THIS TRAVEL PROBLEM WITH CLUTCH PEDAL. THANKS

Check the free travel on the clutch pedal. It needs to be about 1 inch from the little arrow on the pedal to the floor plate(that is if you have the turn buckle clutch rod). If you have the clutch booster then the first adjustment is about 1/8 inch movement in pedal to the booster(adjustment screw on rear of booster), then the book will say 9/16 but I like to go about 3/4 inch free play(adjustment on front of booster), then adjust the dump valve so the red light goes out before the tractor moves, and lastly the tranny brake. When the clutch pedal is depressed all the way down and you go to put it in gear the gears should grind lightly (about 3 or 4 taps) then fall in. If the lever comes out of gear hard after pushing in the clutch to shift from forward to reverse for example then the brake is a little to tight(should come out of gear easy). Check all this before you put in a clutch but if you end up putting in a clutch you still need to make all these adjustments.
