On my 1976 1566 the cab relay has been replaced twice now. It is starting to malfunction again. I need to tap on it to get it to supply power to the cab. I was wondering if there is a better part from the electical industry that would last longer. Any help or your thoughts would be appreciated.

Nick

What usually happens over time is electrical things dont work as well when they get older as they once did when they were new.Take a new car....heck,the original battery could last 4,5,6 years or more, yet when the vehicle gets to be 10,15,20 years old the batteries dont seem to last like they once did.Electrical wiring grows resistance, connectors corrode over time, and the engine may take more to crank it over (carbon, bad running condition)...all lead to premature battery/alternator failures.Much like relays, when worn old items start taking more current to run (like old blower motors)they bear the brunt of the drag and usually fail...while the actual cause is never solved. And they will fail over and over again....
Ever had a blower motor resistor fail on a vehicle? Its pretty rare actually, but can happen....especially when the blower motor is about to seize up,and is taking high amps to keep spinning.

You might want to be checking the wiring for bad connections or somthing drawing to many amps. Poor continuity in wires and connections and somthing trying to draw lots of power will create heat and can burn out components. I find it hard to believe that relays just don't hold up like they used so there has to be a reason for them going out.
