I dropped the pan today and found another major problem. The block is cracked beside #1 piston. Crack is about 2 inches long. The engine was dirty as all get out with what looked like mud caked under the pistons. Looks like a total rebuild. Would I be cheaper considering the busted block to order the entire rebuilt block assembly from valu built? Price is $1309.99 Or find a good block and go from there? The head will be fine when I get it back from the machine shop. Thanks in advance.

Not trying to step on any toes here. But check with JP tractor Salvage for a good used block.
Nice people.

In my opinion, instead of spending $1309.99 for a block assembly, I would look around for a rough looking, good running Cub, and use the engine out of it. Then you would also have some spare parts, and around here you can buy a rough Cub for $500.00 to $750.00.

Thats sort of a 6 to one half dozen to the other question. Only way to know would be add up what all the parts would cost and what you feel your time is worth and figure out which is cheaper, but you also have to think about warrenty on a rebuilt block
