What can a High Crop tractor do? Specifically an H or M? Can they be used with cultivators & planters like the standard tractors? Or, are they mostly just for shows and parades? I am thinking of putting one together and want to know how usefull it will be.

OK, guys. Here it is again. I have several M's with implements. I am also going to build an MV 'wannabe' out of a high cotton tractor. I guess what I am wanting to know is, are my mounted implements for the M going to work on the MV'w'? By looking at the cultivators, they might work, but the angle from the pivot to the ground will be greater. Also, the HM-19 Middlebuster looks like it won't work because of the angle. It would pull up and out of the ground. I guess I could build a bracket that will effectively lower the front mounting points so the implement will be at the standard height, but that just ain't right.

So, you folks with the HV's and MV's, what do you do with them?

I built a high crop H to put my sailboat in and out of the water with. They use them in Alaska where the tides are too mudch for a ramp.

They (Hi crops)were manufactured primarily for tractor shows and parades, however they can also be used for vegetable farms, cane fields, cotton and sorgum growing. There is also a foreign farmer, AKMED, who buys them as fast as you can make them. I'm sure if you build one, you will find some use for it. Since they are considerably taller than regular tractors, an escalator is a handy attachment..... ....JK

I accidentally posted my reply further down on this queston so here goes again. H's and M's are not high crop or high clear tractors. The HV and MV are the high clear versions of these tractors. They were mostly used in the South. They are used for all types of operations in sugar cane farming. They are used to mount bean pickers. They are also used as sprayers in row crops. The cotton picker M can also be considered a high clear tractor when mounted on its' bull gears. The smaller high clear tractors such as the AV were used in certain truck farming vegetable crop production. Row crop tractors such as the H or M were the standard for everything in row crop production in the South. Utility tractors were scarce and were mainly for utility type work such as mowing, grading, backhoeloader work, or large gardens.

Yes, I believe he is specifically talking about High Crops..... And, so far my "HV" is just requiring lots of time and money to put it together....And once its together I"m sure I"ll use it just for being "cool"!! I have a 300,350, and a 350UD with fast hitches and power steering I use for chores....just my thoughts..

I had a high Clear 504 Diesel. Never could figure what it would do for me other than make me feel like I was going to fall off. It had a rather high coolness factor regardless. Not good in trees or timber work. It sure was easy to work on the engine though. Plenty of room underneith and I could park the lawn mower under it too.

I am geting an H going to work on a small horse arena. Has a manure loader, 3 pt for a blade, and can pull a harrow to smooth the horse arena. I prefer them as the higher platform gives the operator increased visibility of the work area.

John G, I use my H's and M for everything imaginable, rake hay, run bale elevator, run Auger, pull hay wagons, pull field cultivators, harrow, pull the seed drill, haul logs out of the bush, run buzz saw, run manure spreader..sounds like I farm with them! I never considered them "high crop tractors", always though of them as cultivating tractors for beans and corn and general purpose tractors. I do have more modern tractors but these oldies earn their keep just about every day...Mike in Exeter Ontario

H's and M's are not high crop or high clear tractors. They are regular rowcrop tractors. The HV and MV are the high clear versions of these tractors and a cotton picker M on bull gears can be considered high clear also. Most high clear tractors in the South were used in sugar cane fields for all types work, and for mounting bean harvesters. They were also used for spraying row crops. The smaller high clear tractors like the AV were used for production of some truck farming vegetable crops.
