If you put a thermastate in backwards will it do anything other than make the tractor get hot? I know this is a stupid bet, thanks

The "spring" part of the thermostat must set in the water on the engine side of the thermostat or it will not open and the engine WILL overheat, Dave.

OK, I'll be a wise a$$ and settle your bet. No, putting in a thermostat backwards will not make the engine overheat. It is running the engine with the cooling system blocked that will make the engine overheat. The backwards thermostat can set there backwards for years and unless you apply heat to the sensor side it will never "do" anything.

I've got to argue with you on that one NC, I mistakenly installed a thermostat upside down on a Ford truck. I didn't make it 1/2 mile and the temp guage was pegged. It does make a differance.
