I have a 1949 Super A that I would like to fit with a 3 pt. hitch. Are there originals available or am I looking for an aftermarket item. What catagory would be suitable and would it be capable of running a 5 or 6 foot brushhog.

Hi T Reay:

I am very satisfied with the Worksaver 3pt. hitch I have on my 1948 Super A. You can see it (model HK-95) on their web site.
www.worksaver.com

You can get a drawbar and pins at Central Tractor, Fleet Farm and the like.

I rigged a 72" King Kutter 3 point to a "drag" type mower. Offset it to make the pto straight. It works great. I mow about three acres and as long as I don't let it get so I have to mow more than about 3 inches I have plenty of power for third gear. Lifting it would be nice but not needed.

The conversion still leaves a couple of shortcomings for ideal mower operation. The PTO shaft on the tractor is in an odd position. U-joint angles will never be ideal and operation of the driveline will not be as smooth as if aligned properly. The PTO is not "live" and the use of an overrunning clutch is mandatory for safety. The Super A has not enough power for a 6' mower.

T Reay: There were no factory 3 points for any of the Farmall offsets until after the 140. A company called Work Saver builds and aftermarket 3 point. Many have been home built using SA rear rockshaft and 3 point parts from other small tractors. Cat I is all you will need as SA will only lift between 500 and 800 lbs, depending how close weight is to hitch point.
