I am considering bidding on two A's in an upcoming auction. One is serial no. IAA 124368. It has what appears to be industrial yellow paint under the orange top coat. Am I correct in assuming it is a 1945 model? Industrial models are not specifically mentioned in the serial number listing. The second is a Farmall A without a serial number plate beside the seat. There is a casting number 6832DA (?) just to the right of the shift pattern plate. There is also a number 6530 DD (also ?) on the steering box. The number stamped on the right side of the engine block is FAA 35704 (or possibly FAA 135704). Any help determining the model years would be apprecited. This will be my first attempt in restoring a tractor.

Casting codes are typically printed much like a date, except the year is symbolized by a letter (e.g. 3-15-T) means the part was cast on March 15, 1950. These codes appear on the major / larger parts of the tractor. The Codes begin with H (1938) and continue consecutively through Z (1954). A = 1955, B = 1956, C = 1957, and D = 1958. If you look at the major parts (such as the plate that covers the rear gear housing, etc), it should help verify the date of the tractor.

The first one (IAA 124368) is a 1945 International A. The other (FAA 35704 or 135704)is either a 1940 or 1945 Farmall A.

Serial numbers for A's, AV's, Industrial A's, B's and BN's are mixed, you are correct about the 1945. As to the other one, when you decide what the engine number is it matches the chassis serial, provided it is the original engine. The other numbers you mention are part numbers.
