I have a 1940 H Farmall with a leaky carb. I put in a new needle and seat and a new gasket. I then took it in and had the float adjusted at the local Case IH dealership. I'm pretty sure it's not a Zenith carb... I'm not sure what the other brand was. Any suggestions other than turning off the gas every time I shut it off?

IH manual says: "It is advisable to close the gasoline shut-off valve if the engine is to be stopped for any length of time". Fixing the leak is real good too.

My 42 H leaked most of the time I have owned it, since 1956. Finally about ten or so years ago I wasn't needing immediatly and I happend to realize that no matter what I did I couldn't get the tang on the float square on the needle, until I noticed that I could take the float hanger off and put a different thickness shim under the hanger. It worked, no more leaking and of course I imagined that it has always ran better since. I tried all the fixes that were sold through the years that didn't work, so I was really put out that it took me so long to see my problem, Keep looking you will find yours in time.

Shuting off the gas is always a good idea. That said are you sure you have the needle seat tight?? Sometime if its not tight enough it will leak and cause a problem like that, leaks just enough to run you out of gas over night but not enough to cause a problem when its running

I too have a little drip from the bottom of the carb. Have thought of shutting it off after uses. But wondered if it might cause my 6 volt system to work even harder filling the carb up with gas before starting. So have always let it drip a little. Not much. I have heard it is common for them to drip. I am too waiting ideas for help.

Pretty common with these old tractors. It will not hurt your battery/starting system if you turn it off. Just turn it on count to 30-50 and start the engine. Since they don't have a fuel pump it only takes a little while for the carb to fill any how.
