I am off to look at a super A with a loader, not sure of the year, but the price $3500, seems a little high - since this is my first tractor - what should I look for - the machine runs well, new rubber and has live hydro, with hydro dump on the loader - comments would be helpful to get me started in the right direction

Fair market value for everything on that tractor, $3500 isn't that bad of a deal.

Loader's probably a 1000, since you said it has hydro bucket dump. Those are rare and can bring $1800-$2000 on Ebay by themselves in any shape.

Tires are new. That's probably $800-$1000 right there to have them changed.

Tractor's in good condition. Well, if you're depending on the seller's description, maybe not. After all, the seller is trying to sell it, so he'll exaggerate about the condition. Downgrade the condition of the tractor by one level. Good condition means FAIR condition.

The big picture is what do you plan to do with the loader. It was not made for heavy work neither was the tractor you are not buying a heavy piece of equipment. Best use of the loader would be a blade on the front for pushing snow.

Chris: Unless you and the former owners drive tractors like little old ladies drive cars on their way to church, run as fast as you can the other direction from that SA. All loaders will do for those little tractors are break the front end.

You asked for all comments, so here goes. I bought a Super A with an aftermarket loader, hydraulic dump with a woreout engine which barely ran for $600. Tires at best were only OK. The loader had been hard on the tractor, had to repair front axle, steering yoke and rear differential cracks. I recommend that you look the tractor over very close. I believe the IH loader for this tractor had a single arm, probably is fairly rare, and would be worth more. IH experts can better answer this question. The engine has been a money pit. We went completely thru it. Used all IH parts including new governor gears. Also new valves and hardened seats in the cyl. head. Crankshaft was a little rough, so it was reground. At the current rate of inflation, I possibly could get my money back in 15-20 years. Nice tractor, but not the cheap mower tractor I had originally envisioned. The loader also needed some structural repair. The unit was used in a fertilizer plant before landing here. Someone else originally bought it to fix up, decided it was too much work, and then pawned it on to me.
