Got a 45 H sat for about 6 months run it for awhile the other day and would hardly run fuel problem. Took the tank off and washed it out what alot of gunk in it. I had allways had problems with the fuel guess i know why. Anyway drained the rearend an put new oil in. Drove it around the yeard and when in R and you press in the clutch it keeps moving for a litttle bit then disengages. Maybe a little rust but did it acoupple of times and still acts up. Does in reverse and 1st. Any help out there??

Daniel, try the grease as everyone has pointed out. Give us a shout if the clutch needs adjustment, I have the skinny on clutch adjustment and many others will help too. Mike in Exeter Ontario

I’m guessing that it is the pilot bearing in the flywheel on the clutch output shaft that is starting to get stiff. The M (I’m guessing that the H is the same) has a zerk fitting in the flywheel that greases the pilot bearing for the clutch output shaft. You have to turn the engine to the correct spot (there is a notch in the front pulley that lines up with the pointer on the front cover) and then the zerk is accessible through a hole in the torque tube in front of where the clutch throw-out shaft is located. Give this zerk a couple of shots of grease and see if that helps. Don’t over grease this or the grease will seep past the bearing and get slung out onto the clutch facings and cause problems there.

The owners manual will be helpful in locating this zerk.

Does it make any noise? My throw out bearing froze and eventually wore down the clutch fingers and would not disengage the clutch.

Dan,

Yep, I'd adjust the clutch and use it. Betcha it comes right out of it.

Look inside the small cover on the bottom of the bellhousing. Should be a greese fitting hanging down on a small pipe. This fitting greases the throwout bearing. The throwout bearing could be hanging up on the sleeve that it rides on. ken
