My 826 diesel has 6000 hrs on it. What kind of life can I expect to get out of this engine for hours. It has been well maintained?? Just wondering what kind of dollars I should be willing to spend in the future to do torque, clutch. etc...

Thanks Todd

I think it would depend on weather or not it has a water filter. If this engine has never been rebuilt it could be in the 30 year old plus range and without a water filter cavation of the sleeves can be a problem. If it has a water filter and has had good service the german engine should easily go 10000 hours as stated by KB 826. I have a 826 without a water filter never rebuilt and 7500 hours and have wondered the same thing. I have been using an additive in the antifreeze I got at my IH dealer. Still feel I am playing with time.

Some time these water filters cause more problems then one may think . After time that stuff that is in a water filter builds up on the inside of everything i did not know this till last year while i was driven big truck , I had and oversize load on that was wide tall and vary heavy and i was routed and the route put me thru the mountains and it was one of the first warm day of spring and before i knew it the truck was overheating big time i even had the fan control on manual the heater on full blast and dropped gears till iwas crawlen and could not bring the temp down after i got the load off i deadheaded home and it would get hot empty we spent the weekend working on the truck and Cat gave us some stuff to flush the cooling system out with as over the years this stuff built up on the inside of everything and would not allow heat transfer afterf three flushing with the thermostat out everything was clean as a wistel and she would stay wright where it was suppose to and we did away with the treated water filter and used some new stuff that you add onece a year and they now say flush and change every year.

Should go at least 10,000 with proper care.
