I did have to move plug wires when I checked the rotor at TDC. The rotor was pointing one tower down in the cap from where I had #1 wire. Went in firing order from there. Thought I had It licked but no go again. Pulled the tappet cover off and brought the engine to TDC and checked gap and was off. The first 2 valves on #1 was set at .019 instead of .013. I had to leave before I could reset all of them. I Hope this is the problem because Im running out of ideas. I guess I screwed up setting them the first time. I went by the pointer and the mark but maybe I was not on the compression stroke when I started on #1? Would the gap being that far off cause her not to fire at all? Hope so. Not going to let the little cub whip me just yet.

Yes it is a cub with a flat head. 49 model to be exact. Thanks for everyones help. Hope I can get her running.

Wooo wait a min here are you sure you have a CUB and not an A or B or is this something newer. Cubs with C60 motors dont have valve covers they have a flat head with the valves in the block.

I would just like to ad that if its a mag and it has already triped when you looked at the rotor it may look like it is closer to the next dog on the cap. I beleve the # 1 is between 1 and 2 o clock position not 3 or 4. Do you get what I am saying. ACTUALLY I BEL #1 IS ON TOP OF THE # 1 STAMPED IN THE CAP.

Even with the pointer pointing at the TDC mark on the front pulley you could still be 180 degrees out of time. The engine fires the #1 cylinder once for two revolutions of the crankshaft.

Try this. Remove the #1 plug. Turn the hand crank slowly until you feel compression building up on the #1 cylinder. Continue the rotation until the pointer indicates TDC.

Now check the rotor location. This will be your #1 plug wire. Rotor rotation is counter clockwise.

But, did it blow back out the carb this time? Probably not.

Air, fuel, fire and a little compression at the right time. That's what it takes to make an engine run. It's all basic stuff. Sounds like you've got air and fuel, all you need is fire and compression at the right time. I think your timing is still a bit off.

To get TDC on the compression stroke, remove the front, #1, plug and use your finger over the hole to judge compression.
