PTO interchange from early Super M to late M??

Can the PTO shaft from a early SuperM be installed on a late M? Any tips for making the switch? Thanks.

There were 3 different types. The early ones had a grove and dog type locking. The later ones have a spline and collar type locking. You have to replace the tranmission counter shaft to enterchange the two types.

I took a very early style M PTO out of a super M this winter.

I think they're the same. Should be a bolt-out, bolt-in process. The rear ends on Stage I and Stage II Super Ms were basically just M castings with different gear ratios.

Just drain the rear end or park the tractor facing downhill on a pretty steep hill, unless you like wearing large amounts of gear oil...
