Hi Jim, the 674 has a D239 German Diesel engine with a Bosch injection pump. The problem with Diesel fuel in the crankcase oil is usually caused by the failure of the lip seal on the injection pump drive shaft. To replace the lip seal the injection pump must be removed from the engine. The lip seal is about $8 CND at CIH dealer.

There are no high tech tools required to replace the lip seal.

These lip seals are failing now due to age and also the new cleaner Diesel fuels have less lubrication than Diesel fuel when this injection pump was designed back in the late 1950s.

See this web site:>Link

If>Link you open your email and repost, I will email you the two pages from I&T shop service manual for injection pump remove/install procedure.

Good luck

Get ahold of a shop that knows old IH tractors. We have an 826 with the six cylinder version of your engine. Same thing happened to it last summer, was a seal in the injection pump. Don"t think they even had to take the pump off.

There is a seal on the pump shaft that is probably shot causing the fuel to dump into the oil pan. If I am not mistaken, I believe that model has a Bosch pump. I removed my pump about two years ago off my 684 which should be similar. My memory is a little fuzzy, but I think you have to take a plate off the backside of the housing where the pump bolts into. I remember a nut that had to removed from that side in order to remove the pump. Also I remember a small plate on the pump that you remove and there is a couple of lines that you have to line up after finding #1 cylinder TDC.
At any rate, this is a job that I definitely would not attempt without having an I & T or similar shop manual. If you have very little diesel experience you may be better off just taking the tractor your local tractor repair shop.
