I think I'd better go down and talk to Cowman. Perhaps he can straighten out my thinkin' as he's done so many times in the past. Bless his heart!

Wife made an appointment to meet with a real estate agent in an hour.

Why do I have the feeling that I'm about to weaken and make an offer on a ..... ..cough,..... cough..... ..hack..... .wheeze..... ..belch..... .dry land farm? :>(

I think maybe this spring fever is gettin' to me (and her).

Allan

Why, growing up I didn't know there was another type of farming besides dryland. After spending a little time with my uncle in NW Kansas, why would you want to spend all your summer in the mud setting water? Just keep the weeds down and hope for the right kind of storms during the summer on dry land... :-) Good luck, let us know when you are back on the farm again..

Been looking at farms in my neck of the woods also. Heck, 100 acres $600,000, have to get a second job and 100 head of cattle to pay for it. ( Either that or find a new women with some money)

north, south, east or west? and there ain't nothing wrong with dry land farming. there are plent of guys around here that irrigate and i laugh my a$$ off everytime my buddies can't go fishing because they have to be home incase the irrigaters quit working, seems their always fixing on them while i'm playing. lot of extra hassle if you ask me. maybe it's different in other parts, i dunno.

Hi Joe,

No irrigation and no irrigation well. At the mercy of the non-existant rain.

Alrighty then. I thought it was farm ground that was irrigated.

On the other hand, our definition of a dry land farm here in Central Ohio would be one where EVERY acre DOES NOT have standing water on it. :>

Dang! I'd say a feller would be in for quite a chase if the wind took your hat from the looks of the picture!

Don't feel too lonely Allan, I know all about who has the check book, it happens here too. Course she's the one that has the money so I usually just go along for the ride.

I'll go ahead and say it. You don't want a dryland farm. Irrigating is the best thing to do in the summer. Its almost like going swimming. Without that, what'll you do for fun? We have some dryland farm ground, and I don't think I could cut it as a full dryland farmer, but if you think you can, go for it.

Allan, No problem glad I could help. There are some straight dryland farmers around here and they cover some serious acres anymore. Just seems kinda boring. I did help out a neighbor doing some combining one time. When you're on those 1.5+ mile wheat strips at night with the lights shining only so far you can almost get lost out there.

Naw,

Already heard that hallucinating, hilarious, pipe dream, debt-unloading asking price. Place is 100 miles from nowhere; no one even wants to farm it, let alone live out there.

Sounds about perfect to me. Hope that same ol’ jackrabbit is still keepin’ an eye on the place. :>)

Yes, that's true.

But I can still see hints of civilization from time to time. Just not far enough out in the wilderness for my type of personality (dummy).

So you're saying that if the neighbors can't see you, then they can't watch you screw up?
