Can't get 12 volt to turn engine over! Think I may have topull head and get all loosened up w/out compression. Are these 460 deisel engines a 12 volt or a 24 volt system?Something is stopping engine from turning over! It moves alittle each time I hit starter. But I am puzzled about it all.

Can you turn the engine backwards by hand? If you can, then definitely the starting system needs work. Check cables first, then if you need to the starter. Make sure that you get the rust off where the starter bolts to the tractor.

It"s a 12-volt system. Doubt anything is physically keeping the engine from turning over. Your starting system needs work. Battery cables can make a huge difference, they might look fine at the ends but be corroded under the insulation. Have your starter tested, too.
