Well I知 going to try something new this time and I知 sure several of you have already done it. Mainly I知 getting excited that my old F-20 will be up and running soon to be honest. This tractor has not run in well over twenty years and had the block exposed and stuck when I got to it. I致e decided to go ahead and put the tractor together before I paint it, and make sure she runs good. After all the bugs have been sorted out, I will partially strip the tractor down and paint it. I will remove the sheet metal, radiator and wheels to paint the old girl. What do you guys think? It seems like a lot of extra work to me but I will be really upset if I have to tear back into her again after she is painted. The reason I don稚 gamble, I never win (or something always goes wrong). Anyone have any warnings I should contend with first on this new venture of mine?

Sprout, what I would recomend is to make sure you clean an prime all your parts as you are putting the old girl back together. That way you have for the most part a clean tractor per say, even if there is little grease here an there. I myself strip, prime, base coat each part an then after i'm done put the finial coats of paint on. A number of my friends fix everything then strip the tractor back down an paint. It's all in how you want to do it not what everyone else wants :o) Have fun doing it an enjoy your time restoring it, it's a hobby not a job so have fun an good luck.

Heck Sprout, that's the only way unless you are 100% sure you won't have to take it apart after paintin...Good luck

LOL!!! I'm 100% sure I will find some reason to tear it back apart. I've already forgot the cam shims and had to take the front cover back off again. Every night I read my book and check my pictures of the tear down and make sure everything is squared away.

Hi Sprout, That's the way to go by taking pictures and reading that manual. When I tore an engine apart I put all items from one area of the engine in a separate box and marked where & what the items are. Makes it a lot easier to reassemble the engine and don't have to sort thru
a pile of items looking for an item.

I think I would clean and prime the tractor parts so that is completed as someone suggested. Hal

I agree with ya Toro. I found that zip lock baggies and a marker are great for gathering up and labeling all of my bolts and washers. Then I throw everything in a plastic tub so everything is in one place. Works great!!
