I have a '61 Farmall 460 WF with an IH2000 loader that I have been fixing up and getting ready for spring. The TA is out (will do the dual split next winter.) but other than that it works great. There is a #540 2pt. semi-mount 4-16's plow going up for auction next weekend.

Will the 460 pull it in sandy soil with rare spots of clay? Should I hold out for a #535 3-bottom or remove the 4th bottom or get a #510 3 or 4 bottom. Are the 16's going to be too big? Can I safely plow with the 2000 loader still attached? I never plowed with a tractor that had a loader on it.

Great forum
Thanks!
-Mike

A 3-bottom is a good match for a 460. Sweet tractor, smooth, rather economical, but not a powerhouse. Used a 460 and three 14's for years on s.w. Pa hills (heavy soil around here). If you drop the bucket on the loader it won't be so clumsy. The loader frame will be good added weight.

Pull a bottom on that plow if you buy it, or hold out for a 3 bottom. The 460 we used for years had a 3 bottom on it, and we plowed sandy creek bottoms, and clay hillsides, the 3 bottom is your best bet.

In sandyground it amypull it but it would bea load. The 460 never was known for lugging. If it goes cheap enough, a bottom can be dropped easy enough to make it a 3 bottom plow. As for plowing with the loader on it, it will help to hold the front end down. The mounted plowsmake them quite light in the front when transporting. Dad had a 350 with a 3/16 plow, and the fropnt end was in the air all the time. Could take off in 4th with the plow raised and put it in the ground! 460 may be a little heavier in front, so don't know how it would be.

Buy the 4 bottom and remove a bottom. Then you will have some spare parts. And get a manual for the plow.
