I just got to meet Mr. Nebraska Cowman hisself! What a great fellow to deal with. He is on his way to Mt Pleasant to learn the fine art of engineering steam traction engines! Wish I were headed there too. I have yet to be unimpressed by the people I have personaly met through this board. You should see his hauling rig. No problem telling which direction he leans color wise. He left me a beautiful Duckbilled F-20 too! Of course she is nick named "Ducky" now. :? )

The earliest F-20s had the same steering as a Regular only enclosed. Not to many about anymore. Duck billed F-20 Foreground. Duckbilled F-30 behind.

Sloroll; THanks for picture and reply. Now I understand what a Duckbill F-20 is. I grew up on a farm in S E Nebraska, helped dad, and neighbors when dad didn't need me. I've known a lot of F-20's, but none like you picture. I've seen them with throttle on left side, Throttle on right side, Throttle on the steering colum with the spark advance lever, Cast rear wheels, with removable rims, steel lugs, cut off wheels with rims welded on, and lots of other variations. Seen a few like somebody mentioned on another post, that had been 2 tractors made into one. It was comonly done, what ever parts were abailable and the price was right, were used. One poor old fellow that I sometimes worked for, about 46 or 47, he bought a "F-30" He hired me to plow a few days with it. It had open steering gears, manual set inmpulse coupler on the magneto, 3 speed transmission. I didn't have the heart to tell him that sombody had painted a Regular red and sold it to him for a F-30. As far as I know he went to his grave without knowing he'd been took on the tractor. Sorry this so long.

We're all nice guys from out in this area, Slo, and Cowman, although I've never met him in person, is a worthy ambassador.

Speakin' of steam traction engines, I spotted one today sitting along with a few other very early tractors in an open shed near Bayard NE. Unfortuanately I was accompanying the feild trip of my kid's two-room country school(9 kids total) so I didnt get to check it out further. Also saw and didn't get to stop at a Farm and Ranch Museum on the outskirts of Gering NE...lots of old red and other colored iron sitting outside there too. Looked to be worthy of a possible trip back. Ever been there Allan? Finally, on the highway northeast of Bayard, there was a super-rough looking 2+2 sitting in a farmyard. Part of the hood was missing and the paint was so faded it looked Case orange. Sad sight. But a couple more miles East there was an 86-series something that looked absolutely showroom-new.

Hi Ron,

That outfit at Bayard is an old timer's machinery club of some kind I think. Howard goes to it almost every year. Don't know about the one in Gering.

When I was a wee lad, my dad used to get up at 2am, cut beans til 8 or 9, combine til dark and then we would haul a truckload of some 200 bushel 100 miles all the way down to that beanery at Bayard. Get back home at midnight, fuel up, grease up and start the process all over again.

I always thought that it was a good thing that the long hill dropping off into the valley was downhill with the load. That old truck had to work climbing back up outta there even when it was empty. :>)

Hi Allan, Suprisingly enough, the lady working the desk at the SB Super 8 where we stayed highly reccommended the Farmers-Ranchers museum in Gering. There's a large red building, and lots of tractors and implements(from threshing machines to modern stuff) sitting outside. Maybe someone else here has been there?

Noticed the beanery in Bayard. Also noticed those long hills going outta town. Kinda like leaving Chadron in most any direction...

By the way, noticed your pic on another post of all three of your tractors. Lineup looks good! And the more I look at that F-11 on that H, the more I think I need me one of those loaders, even though I don't currently have the "right" tractor to put it on!

No, I didn't redo that one. I got it from another fellow named David Grindle out of WI. One more fine fellow I met through here. And another salt of the earth. I traded a 504 High clear for the W4. I had always thought the fours were good looking and I love an H, so when I saw that one I jumped at it. It didn't suit me though. Just didn't fit, so on it went. Howard was alot like what I expected. He is a man of not a lot of words but when spoken definitely had meaning. I was duely impressed. I was suprised at the fact he was slim. I don't know why. He seemed to be very comfortable in his own skin. Those Dairy boys know whats what.
