Help, I am stuck. I need an unbias opinion. I have a 1939 Farmall H and am thinking about selling that and buying a 1951 AC CA wide front with 3pt hitch. I can get the AC CA for a little more money than buying a 3pt hitch on my H. I need to know if these tractors are comparible in HP and other things. Can anyone help? I really like my H but am open to getting what I need to get the job done around the 20 acres. Thanks
Ed (Please dont flame me for talking about AC on here)

Thanks everyone for the GREAT information! I just need it for mowing and blading but I dont really need two tractors. I dont really want to get rid of my 39 H. Kinda sentimential I guess. Maybe I will just go ahead and put the 3pt on the H and use it and forget about the CA. Decisions, decisions.

I have a 1955 CA - rated @ 22.97 h.p. My book also states weight is 3,000 pounds. 125 cu. in. engine. Fourth gear high idle speed is 13 1/4 m.p.h. 76 3/8 " high; 81 7/8 " wheel base; overall length (not inseam) is 124 5/8". App. 8" turning radius. Optional 145 lb. wheel weights. Very economical tractor those Allis Chalmers. My dad has two oldies - a WC & a B. My hand clutch doesn"t work and has been sitting @ a shop - outside since late last summer :^(. I have a front blade I want to build a frame for and mount and use to plow snow. Didn"t get that all done, but only got to plow twice last winter anyway. You won"t go wrong w/ an Allis Chalmers. My dad says the H was a good tractor also. Hey, if you can swing it and have storage room - then you can pose both the H and CA for pictures! Hope this helped some and I wish you well.

Should have added: does it have the AC snap-coupler system? Mine does. I have contact in Missouri (I think) for purchasing a three-point kit for the snap-coupler tractor. App. $210-250 price range. I had to replace a rear wheel that was completely corroded through. New adjustable rim app. $230.

Keep them both. But for information, CA shipping weight 2835 lbs, H shipping weight 3460 lbs, CA 25.96 belt hp, H 26.20 belt hp, CA 22.97 db hp, H 24.17, CA max 3557 lbs pull @ 1.70, H max 3606 lbs pull @ 2.06 mph. These are original Nebraska test results. Most H's have been rebuilt and now have more hp than these results.

Get the CA, keep the H. Down the road a 50, a 35, etc. I started collecting planning on a mid fifties one of each brand made back then. When I croak the grandkids could market the collection as they see fit!

Trikeman
I have a 41 H and I also own 51 CA if there is anyway too make room in the barn for both that is what I would do. The H is a beast of its own there is none better for pulling work, And the little Ca I have is just great for belly mower and snow pushing. The down fall of the H is No 3 point and the down fall of the Ca is it is real lite on the front end. So if you can keep them both you wont be sorry. But if all you need is mowing machine and snow pusher Ca is a nice rig JUST make sure the hand clutch works cause it iss costly too fix. Good luck with you choice it is 1 you have too live with. Jay

You can get a 3 point hitch for $675, and you want to get rid of a 39 H?? Buy the Allis and keep the H, 3 point or not. I can't help you with the comparison, because I'm not familiar with the Allis model you refer to -- but usually, as with IH, you can't go wrong with Allis.
