Kelly, you took those photos in "sweet light" which enhances the colors, makes them look richer (red not washed out) and a great perspective from the tractor seat - used your knoggin" there. Now...even if a fella weren"t a level-headed Norwegian, with such flat land, the tobacco juice would have to run out of both corners of your mouth.

Great looking job. Reminds me of the old farm I grew up on here in N Iowa. Looks like you got the ground worked up just right . . . nice & loose. Now, let it settle a bit and sock in those seeds.

One more thing you could do would be to add a toy JD tractor in the air cleaner jar! Or choose any other brand to drop in there.

Heck Kelly!

You're lookin' like an old pro out there! Now, run your drill cross-wise and you've got 'er in the bag.

Is that an old #35 disc?

Good Job!

Allan

No Sir!

I'd never, ever laugh at what you are doing 'cause you've got 'er nailed, that's for sure.

I know, sounds crazy right? But you've disced it at least twice in the same direction. Tractor is not dualed up and it looks like the disc is running with the wheels down?

You've got compaction building in those tire tracks even tho you can't see it.

Run 'er the same direction again with the drill and sooner or later chances are that the tire tracks are gonna land right back on themselves yet once more.

When this happens, and after the crop has emerged, you will see the tire tracks in the height of the crop until after the 4th of July or longer. Drilling crosswise (or any differing angle) of the tillage lessens the effect.

I always tried to run every pass of the tillage at a different angle, say 35 or 40 degrees from square. Then, when it came time to plant, just run true to direction either way.

At least, that's the way it works in this country. Maybe it is different in your land and with your soil types.

Allan

I'm getting ready to plant alfalfa/timothy also. What rate and per cent are you using. Local dealer here said 15 lb per acre, 13lbs timothy to 2 lbs alfalfa. That is for drilling. Do you use the "rancho" timothy, "Harding" or what? Assume you are going to roll that field before/after planting, or use cultipacker? Email is open

The owner of this land lets me play on it for free. He lives in the city and wants to keep his ag property tax rate. Saves him a few hundred bucks a year for me to hay it.

Sheez! Where are all the hills? The T/A linkage would sieze up from non-use in those flatlands. :>

That looks like some good times there. Haven't seen dust here for a few days. Wish I had a tractor big enough to do some disking with.

I should have gotten a photo of all the sea gulls that showed up when I was 1/2 done. ABout 100 of them showed up and started rooting in my dirt.
Rush lake is about 500 past my pick up just on the other side of the rd. Flying rats if you ask me.
