I figured since I have looked at everyone elses tractor pictures, it was time I posted some. This is our 1951 W6. Great tractor, lots of fun to drive and very comfortable. Not the prettiest, but being pretty doesn't get the raking done any faster does it? Just put a new clutch in it last spring, a new manifold gasket, a new valve cover gasket, and new transmission seals. She is all ready to get out in the field, and so am I!

Looks just fine to me! I like Nebraska Cowman's term, "low-crops". That's good.

I haven't had the opportunity to run a W-6. I would imagine it's a little easier to jockey around than my W-9.

A good friend has a Super WD-6 with hydraulics. The diesel with its injector pump, filters and hydraulic accessories completely fills the engine bay giving that tractor a look of "I mean business". Very handsome.

Since we're on the subject, I've seen pics of W-6s with the engine tub casting similar to my W-9, and I've seen W-6s with the channel engine frame rails. What say ye about this? What's the story here?

The "bathtub" frame was used "til about "52. Then IH switched to the frame rails, which just happen to interchange with the M.

Actually my SW6TA is in some ways tougher to steer than my 600 ( derived from W9) Must just be the steering ratio.
The cast iron "bath tub"frame was used on all W6s and the early Super W6s. The later Super's had the channel frame, similar to an M. These Supers also had a longer hood and 7.50 x18 inch front tires, like the W9s.

Wish I had your seat. I'm sure that would drastically improve the ride over the tube seat that mine has.

Yeah, it is off of an M. It was modified by my uncle sometime in the 1960's. The other seat kept breaking the spring, so he took an M seat assembly, heated up the bar, and bent it so that it would sit lower. Rides really nice. Great looking tractor by the way.
