Recently read the article titled "Step by Step 12-Volt Conversion" for the Farmall M and Super M by Bob Melville. Went to a local Napa shop to inquire about the availability of the Delco 10SI alternator. Didn't have one exactly and was asked what amperage was needed since they had different 'sized' alternators. The smallest put out 37-42A, had a part number 213-4003. I couldn't imagine I'd need more output than that as my old '66 Chevy uses a 37A AC Delco. Can anyone tell me more specifically about amperage requirements and or a Delco 10SI part number, if possible? Thank you all in advance.

Kevin - Like the other's suggest the smallest output 10SI you can find is more than adequate for any Farmall's needs. I ask for one for a 1980 Chevy Citation (which happened to be the donor for of my 1st alternator used for a conversion). But any alternator from any small/mid-size GM car or light truck built between about 1975 and 1985 or so will work fine. Also the rebuilt units supplied by NAPA, etc are rated for 55 or 61 amps, despite what is stamped on the case.

Yugrotcart: I think your generator rebuilder was BS'ing you! A good, 6 volt generator will throw a minimum of 12 amps, and more usually 15 or 16.

Had my 6 volt generator rebuilt and then tested. I was told the max amperage that it puts out is 8. So any size alternator will be more than enough.

The small one will work good as long as you don't want eletric windows and AC. Just kidding it will be more then enough.

Unless you are planning on installing some accessory that draws a lot of electricity, a 37 amp alternator will be plenty.
