Should you paint the starter on a Farmall H/M red or should it be black?

It was red from the factory, but the nameplate was masked off. If you want to be "correct", that would be the way to go.

Rebuilts often came through black and usually were left that way.

I paint my starters & generators black because I like how it looks. But I know it wouldn't suit the correct police.

Like Allan said, it's yours, paint it the color that looks best to you.

You will need to start thinking about changing your handle to Black Dave.

Hi Robert,

Delco Remy painted 'em black and IH painted 'em red, so guess it is your own personal call. :>)

I understand that at the factory they were painted red, any rebuilt/replacements were black.
