Hey guys, I heard from a scrap yard that the hydraulic live pump that was used on Super M's in front of the distributor wont work on a straight M, was wondering if this is true? And also, does anyeone know where I could get a good used pump for an M? Thanks alot.

From 51 up the pump will fit. The top holes are diffenent, the bottom ones line up ok. I put a live pump on my M by making a clamp to hold the top of the pump in place. I used 2 3/8 X 6 eye bolts and opered the eyes. I placed the open eyes in the bolt holes of the pump and I made a bracket of iron that went in front of the oil fill and pulled it tight. Works fine and with a little paint on the eye bolts, it looks ok

It's true. The engine front cover is different on a Super M, and the live pump won't bolt up on a regular M unless you change that, and the timing gears.

A regular M did not have a hydraulic pump in front of the distributor. It was an aftermarket add-on, which is VERY rare and VERY expensive to buy these days.

I think the Super M had a bigger cam shaft gear to handle the pump so the plate that goes between the block and the front cover had bigger holes. If you change the plate you can use the pump.
