I have a newly acquired Farmall tractor that is model # FAA and serial # 271217. Is it an "A", "Super A", "Super Ai". I'm very new to the game and need some help. It has touch control hydraulics,PTO, and belt pulley PTO (rear). It has a square tubular front axle and a brace connecting the front axle pivot point to the transmision housing (under the oil filter). I've been told this is an industrial model and is somewhat rare. Any second opinions?

I agree with Harold you have a Super A. An industrial model wouldn't have a belt pulley.

Your tractor is a 1949 Farmall Super A with the optional heavy duty front axle which is the same axle that is standard on the Industrial. If your tractor was a International Super A the serial number prefix would be IAA rather than FAA.

I think that we have one. Got it from a Ford dealer when the County Hiway sold their old sickle mower tractor and traded it for a Ford, back in the late 60's. We put a 42" Woods belly mower under it and it finally rusted out. Tractor has a square tubular front axle, I can check on the serial number later today, might even be an International , and not a Farmall... ours is painted yellow, maybe the County had that done as it has silver under the yellow to block the red paint under that. Tractor has a magneto. I guess it's rare. Most A's of any kind demand a decent price at auction. It might have one stamped rear wheel and the other one cast iron, as it's an offset tractor. Good tractor, you'll enjoy it! What are you going to do with it to get it dirty?

T Reay: It is a Super A Industrial. I noticed on one of your posts you used the term Super A1, as in the number one. Just wanted to make you aware there are two models. All Super A1 were built after serial number 356001, same specs as Farmall 100 but with SA sheet metal. Only 1,957 of these built.

Your Super AI or industrial are not very plentiful either. I've heard figures as low as 8xx. I question if the numbers are quite that low as you just see too many. If you consider the fact these tractors were sold in all states of US, 10 provinces in Canada, several countries in Europe and even a few went to Austrailia. That wouldn't figure out to much more than 10 per state, province or country. I lived for years in Nova Scotia, one of the smallest provinces in Canada, and know there were certainly more than 10 of them around. I just notice tractors, particularly these little offsets. By the way I have never seen a Super A1.
