350 utility,the shaft seals seemed to have been installed reversed on this tractor.the spring on the seal is facing outward,is this correct? thanks

That is supposed to be a double seal. Ih replaces them with a single.The inside one might be installed correct and because of a bad shaft the guy might have been looking for a good place on the shaft for the outside one to ride.

That doesnt sound kosher....
Sounds bass-ackwards to me.
Somebody thought the recessed backside of the seal would be a better surface to use to seat with a deepwell socket as opposed to the smooth frontside.

Maybe they were afraid the spring would pop loose and go inside? (of course it would just hang on the shaft...until the shaft was removed,and it would then hit bottom).
