Spring is early here in Ont. Snow dissappeared about 2 weeks ago. The ground is still soft and wet. No rain for 2 weeks and been overly warm. Probably another 2-3 weeks before we can get out there an do anything serious.
What's it like in the rest of the world?

I live in southern Idaho on the Snake River. We have had some rain the last couple of months, but its dry now. Temps are mostly in 50's & 60's. Irrigation water is available for delivery today. See a few sprinklers running now mostly on winter wheat and newly planted sugar beets. We have to irrigate about 6 months out of the year because this was all a sagebrush desert until about a hundred years ago. Ken

Here on the bald and flat prairie on the east side of Calgary, we have almost gotten rid of the snow. You have to love our weather here. 'Cause if you don't you will just kill yourself. 2 weeks ago we hit 19C, Sunday April 10th we sat around in shorts with no t-shirts on. Then last Wednesday we got snow (zapped the asparagus)and cold. Saturday the 16th as windy as a hurricane, yesterday was a nice day and then we woke up to snow this morning...
My ground isn't thawed enough to pound fence posts yet and my septic field is still frozen. We will put the potatoes and other seeds in the garden on the May long weekend but too many years of experience have taught us that none of the seeded plants can go in the ground before the second weekend in June. And it all better grow quickly because we will get our first killing frost around September 21.
Now that I am done ranting, can someone please tell my why anyone would want to farm in this climate? Ranching yes, farming no. I actually love it here but I am glad I farm as a hobby, not for an income.

Sean

Hi Eric,

We turned on the Air last night at 10pm. Seems like it always skips "spring" here. :>(

Hi Eric, It had been in the mid 70s and is going up near 80 today in NE MD. We had about 8.7" of rain several weeks ago, but now the ground is dry and cracking open. Hope it stays warm and doesn't
freeze the fruit trees. Hal
