I am looking at a Super C to buy . I like the size of the tractor but I am a little concerned about the power .

I have 10 acre hayfield and need a tractor to take care of it . Will the Super C be enough tractor to handle the job of pulling a two bottom plow , disc , mow chores ??? Any advice would be welcome
Joe

I recently fully restored a 1952 Super C that was purchased new by mky dad. You can view the tractors and restoration project on my web site www.chaselinks.com.

I did a lot of work on the family farm (40 acres) with the Super C. Plowing, mowing, cultivating, etc. The Super C seems to be just the right size, power, and flexibility for your plans. As you can see on the web site, I added a 3-point hitch from Saginaw rather than a fast hitch. I decided to go for newer 3-point implements that are also interchangable with my John Deere 4510 and certainly more available and more variety.

My thoughts. Good luck and hope you go for the Super C.

Joe: My uncle milked 20 cows on 100 acres of land in a climate with 7 months stored hay feeding. He did all his work with a Super A, probably plowed about 15 acres per year. This was in the 1950s an his front end loader was a fork and shovel.

The very first year I ever plowed 100 acres on home farm about 1960, I did all the plowing with Farmall 130 and 2x12 fast hitch plow. My dad was spreading manure with Farmall 300 on spreader and Cockshutt 540 with loader. We milked 40 cows morning and night. As I recall we did trade jobs some days. I think plowing was both my dad and my favorite farm job.

If I were you looking at Super C, I'd go for one with fast hitch with fast hitch mower and plow. That pre fast hitch mounted equipment from IH just too slow mounting. The Super C is a great little tractor. With a 2x12 or 2x14 plow you will plow 5-7 acres per day, have lots of time for morning coffee and a cool one in the evening.

I have a Super C and have not plowed with her let but I think its got plentey of power. I guy down the road from me has a Super C and he has a set of 2 way plows on 16" I think. It pulls them with no trouble. And thats pretty good in New England where every 2 mins. you hit rocks and ledge. Andrew

I think the Super C be ok for your needs. I had a
Super C with the fasthitch two bottom plow and it did an excellent job plowing. I should've kept it. I wouldn't use a large disk and it should handle a mower. Are you using a sickle bar mower? Hal

We had a regular C as a second tractor back in the late 40's..... .It had a front mounted corn planter that was a real pleasure to use....The 7 ft. rear mounted mower did a great job....a two row cultivator was OK at low speed, but a hand full at higher speeds, tractor a bit light..... ..I liked to cultivate with the M it stayed on the row with out a fight in 4th, gear full speed.....
The super C has near the same HP as a reg. H .....

One of my co-worker's had a truck farm and he rented some acreage too. He raised just vegetables to sell at his stand and he had people to come in and pick their own veggies. He used a Super C for culivating. He planted 50 pounds of lima bean seed. I nick named him Limaer Bean.
He was always talking about his lima beans. He had 5 or 6 tractors that he used. He was an excellent mechanic too and so was his son. Hal

We had a 7-ft sickle bar that we used on an H, but the Super C should handle that. I have an old
John Deere book that features all their tractors in the early 40's and their farm implements. They had a 7-ft sickle bar for their tractors and they also had a 7-ft horse drawn mower.

We had only McCormick-Deering 5-ft horse drawn until they got the H. My brother broke the tongue
out one of those mowers and my dad wasn't too happy and I said accidents happen. The horses were not injured and he was concerned about getting the mower back to the shed. We had a 10-20 then and I used it to tow the mower. A few days later I sawed the tongue off and made some
brackets in my shop class and I installed them and used that 10-20 to tow the mower. I was all
of 15 at the time. I had my dad on the mower
and we went out and mowed about 5 acres of alfalfa. My dad was smiling when he saw what a tractor can do. We phased out the horses. I left the farm when I finished high school. My brother joined the Air Force and I got drafted
into the Army. Hal

Dadbought one fo the first C's in the area adn used it for plowing for a whil, but said the plow they had then was junk. That tractor will d a lot of work for it's size. 10 acreswould not be a problem to take care of. We had a mounted cycle bar mower (rear mount) and it was one of the handiest mower tractors. Mowed all our hay and windrowed the oats, cultivated all the dorn ofr several years (abt. 80 acres, 3 times) Ahandy little tractor.

We had a C and it was a pain in the butt to install that plow. We used it mainly for cultivating and for raking. I cut the tongue off
one of the horse drawn corn planters and used the C for that too. I liked the Super C much better. We got an H just before the C and used
it for the heavy work. Sure was a work horse. Hal
