Did the 504 come with a voltage regulator? Mine currently doesn"t have one.

Put a volt meter across the battery terminals with engine running from 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and
see what your voltage reading is. A 12 volt system should read between 13.5 to 14.5 volts and the 6 volt system around 7.5 to 7.75. If your tractor has been starting ok with the starter, the battery is probably charging ok. Hal

The 504 would have come from the factory with a voltage regulator. Unless it"s been converted to an internally-regulated alternator the charging system won"t work without one!
