neighbor gave me a super m s/n L 501689 j ,factory propane.thought it would be good for some parts.all 4 tires flat, been setting for years with exaust open.got it home pulled plugs,.. no rust,no water in oil, motor was free.could not belive it.converted it gas as propane is such a pain to get, fresh oil, battery, started right up ,oil pressure pegged the gauge.
only thing it needs is disk brakes replaced.are these much trouble? sorry for long post ,but i've been around tractors for years and never saw this happen before, usualy stuck tight.even the trans. oil don't look to bad.

Amazing - must be VERY dry where your new SM was abondoned!

SM brakes are simple to remove/disassemble and repair. Key is to get 'em thorougly clean and oil free inside. If there is evidence of tranny lube leakage into the brakes you'll need replace the differential (spline) shaft seals. This is easy to do from outside the transmission.

When reassembling a VERY LIGHT film of NevrSeez or grease on the splines and actuating plate anchor pad surfaces is good. But leave the balls inside the actuator plates dry, or lightly dust 'em with graphite powder.

Replacement friction discs are readily available from CIH, TSC, etc. Figure about $100 for a set of 4 (2 req'd each side).

Good luck - sounds like you got yourself a nice tractor!

Someone in Red Power magazine was advertising the complete brake sets, and you trade your old ones in. For a lot cheaper, might I add, than you would have to pay at Case IH dealer.

we had a set of plates made to fit between the trans and the drum on my SM, they were too worn even with new disks and stuck all the time. It looks like it's got wear pads on the trans casting are they replaceable?
