Has any one got ideas on mounting hydraulics on a Farmall A. Our son in law has a shop and a customer wants to have a hydraulic system mounted, so they can lift a trail type sickle mower? It has the factory two point hydraulic system on it now. Can this be tied into a system to raise and lower the cutter bar? We just want to raise the bar to clear rocks etc.,not to lift it into transport position. Thank you to any fellow Farmall owners. I also own one myself, but have no use for this feature.

dick: I'm suspecting from what you say, tractor is actually a Super A rather than A. Farmall A didn't have hydraulics. I assume the tractor has touch control with rockshafts on either side of fuel tank. That being the case, mower bars can be raised very simple by running a pull rod from rockshaft to lift mechanism of mower. Usually these went back between left rear tire and fender.

I had a factory set up years ago and it was just a piece of 3/8 steel rod about 6' to 8'. Usually they put a short piece of chain or turnbuckle on the end to give adjustment. All the factory rear mounted and semi-mounted mower bars on Super A and Super C were lifted that way years ago. If the mower is not IH, you may have to modify the mower a bit. We had an IH mower and later NH and in both cases mower bar was lifted by that means. It's economical and it works well.

You need this remote valve. All you would need to complete it would be the hoses and the couplers for the rear.
