Sleeve Bearing Removal

I have never had real good luck removing those sleeve bearings on my tractors. I am replacing the sleeve bearings on the wide front end on my Cub. Does anyone know of a puller that has some kind of jaws that hook on the bottom of the sleeve to pull it out? I have been using an old screw driver and peel the bearing out at the seam which sometimes damages the inside of the housing, so I have to hone out the scrap marks. Does anyone have a good way to do this? I couldn't find anything in the Archives. Roger

Yes, it is called a pilot bearing remover.

I have one I got at Northern, or Harbor Freight, can't remember which.

Snap-On, Grainger, or McMaster-Carr should have them too.

Dave; will those work for a bushing with a 1 1/2 inch inside diameter? I am trying to replace a pivot pin, and bushings in a Ford 5000 and am having a bad time getting the lower bushing out. Parts aren't here yet, but I would like to have had it apart before the parts arrive. Looks like that isn't going to happen. I was looking at the pilot bushing removers, and Autozone has a loaner I may try.

Not sure. It'll work on the pilot bearing in a flywheel. There's probably different sizes of pullers, so I guess the only thing to do is try one.

Roger the best thing for a bushing is a driver to drive the old out and the new in. If it fits the bushing right it will not damage the new bushing as you drive it in. The bushing should just slide over the small diameter and the large diameter should just slid through the bushing bore.
