I am in need of some help. I need to remove the real wheels from my row crop Farmall 300 but I am only able to loosen the two 1 1/8 inch fine thread bolts that hold the axle clamps on. (The two bolts on the outside).Does anyone know if I use a heating torch to heat them up will harm them. The 300 was my father's and I am starting to restore it. Any help or ideas appreciated

Look at it this way. Some thing is going to Come,Bleed or Blister.

The blue wrench or gas hatchet has been good to me.

I would use that torch too. Heat them red hot and try to loosen them. Reheat again until you can loosen the nuts. Hal

TL, I am a fan of "Hot Wrench", it will not hurt anything to heat them up red hot. There are two schools from there. Some like to turn them out when they are hot, I like to douse with cold water and then lube and turn them out. I worked for a few years in an auto repair shop and my boss could get anything apart with the torch and seldom ever broke of harmed anything in the process. Breaker bars are great but if a bolt does snap you will have more work. No one is wrong here, all are methods of removing stubborn bolts , my method is just another tool in the box to try...good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario

I've always had good (?) luck with penetrating oil and a 3/4 or 1" drive breaker bar and a long cheater pipe.I've never had a bolt break or had much luck using heat. BTW,I got my 3/4 drive socket set at Menard's for under $40.00,It works just fine on these old tractors.John.

I got the same set you got. Best $40 Ive spent yet.
Used them today to remove my rears from the 400.
I also had 2 stuck bolts and the 4 foot cheater I have worked.

TL,

Are you using a 6 foot cheater? They'll move.

I should have made clear that two of the four axle clamps bolts will loosen but the two on the inside (closet to the fender) will not move.

I used 5'- 1 1/2" thinwall conduit on a 3/4" breaker bar to remove clamp bolts & rim bolts on my old H with no problem other than it takes time. It had been many years since the were last out.
