Hi Guys I just noticed something I was just looking at the new H its a 51 366484. I beleve ok the serial # is in a block at the rear of the motor above the oil filter. OK Now I was just lookin at my other H and the serial block is at the front of the motor with the serial stamp in that one being 322xxx 1949 I guess is that something they changed over the years or was that not specific. Or maybe one plant cast it in a different place than the other? JON

Mr. Haney, who's a '46, has the Ser.#FBH 221654 (which matches the number on the plate on the bell housing, thank goodness) stamped on a flat spot on the right front of the block, slightly above and just ahead of the magneto. I haven't found it in any other places yet, but I only recently noticed that one.

BTW, I notice he has no suffix. I know there were suffixes that told fuel type or brand of clutch or such. Wonder why this one, a distillate or kerosene burner by the extra gas tank and manifold with the jacket and lever, wouldn't have one?

Williamf, since the distillate burning engine was the "standard" engine, there would not be a suffix. The suffix was used to denote options, or differances from the normal H.

Maybe your engine is installed backwards? Don't know, it's a new one on me. I am pretty sure that my 50 H is just like all the rest of the Hs I've ever seen.
