Curious if a higher octane will make a noticeable difference in these old engines?

Tractor has sat for 15 years. Just tore it down, honed cylinders(there were in good shape). Put it all back together with a rebuilt carb, conversion to 12V complete with new plugs, wires, coil, alternator, etc...

Did not touch the clutch or transmission on the rebuild. Hope to hell they work when I engage them.

The belly pump is missing the dipstick, how can a fella ensure proper fluid level in there?

87 octane will be just fine, however, 10% ethanol is 89 octane, and usually 2 cents a gallon cheaper. Your H will run just fine on that also.

Hi Arod I beleve the tractors were made to run on low octain . The higher the octain the cooler they will run.I beleve with the high compression kit it would run a little better with higher octain but I think for what you did you would be waisting your money running anything over 87. I have not ever ran a dipstick I just fill her up untill she works good and if she gets slow I ad a quart. I dont think you would hurt it to over fill her I will measure a dip stick and let you know so you can make one out of wire to check it with. JON

I agree with MAGMAN, these are low compression engines, even with the "high compression" kits they have lower compression then "modern" (1960s+) engines. 87 octain will be just fine for most any application.

Even if you overfill the pump, the worst that will happen is the oil will come back out the fill tube, and make a mess, nothing else will be hurt.
