I have a 1941 H. My son and I were taking here down the road for a spin and I noticed a knocking comming from the tractor. I doesn"t knock while it is just sitting there running, just when you put it in any foward gear and start moving. It is consistent. It doesn"t knock in reverse. Any ideas?

My S/A had a knock in the left front wheel. I thought it was probably a bad wheel bearing. After installing the new one I spun the wheel & it still knocked. Loose wheel weight.

Make sure your wheels are tight on the axel. Another issue with that engine, if it has a lot of time on it, the crank can move forward and back allowing the crank throw to tap the pan. I can't remember now if that was when pulling or idleing. I replaced the bearings (mains and rod) and it stopped. I had issue with the loose wheel too. About drove me nuts and I was ready for a teardown before I noticed a broken wheel wedge bolt.

Check the driveshaft coupling. It's on the rear of the driveshaft where the driveshaft connects to the tranny. I have a 41 H also, and I just finished going through the rearend. The coupling was worn so bad it was ready to fall out. You need to drop the bellypump to get to it. ken
