Got a chance to tinker with the 650 this afternoon, and I'm 99% positive that the exhaust valve on #1 is burned.

Allan- I checked out your man's theory on the compression valves. The way I figured, if one of those was burnt, I could pull the spark plug while running on deisel and compression would blow out of the plug hole. All the plugs checked ok. I manually opened a compression valve with a screwdriver and sure enough, compression blew out the plug hole when running on deisel. So the compression valves are sealing. All valve clearances are good. All valves moving. No broken valvesprings. Moved the injector pump timing all over the place with no improvements. Still just that comression noise coming out the exhuast stack. My theory behind the white smoke that goes away is that it's unburnt fuel. Not enough compression in that cylinder to burn it all when it's cold, then when it warms up there's still enough compression to burn it so the smoke clears up, but with the valve not sealing for whatever reason, and getting worse all the time, it won't be long before major damage is done if I keep running it. Got a top end gasket kit on the way! Anyone happen to have an exhaust valve for a 350ci diesel engine?

I've got 4 , but they are in my 600D, so I'm not giving them up. Sorry! I do think I've seen that someone had them though. Good luck.
Paul
