424 gas governor - what rpm range to kick in?

First of all, let me say that i seem to always do things the hard way. Replaced the old leaky MS carb with a new zenith. The new carb leaked too. Then found out the manifold gasket was bad. Milled the pitted manifold down and put on a new gasket. Adjusted the zenith linkage (while mounted on the engine). The tractor really runs good now (it should after these $$).

I am now timid about adjusting the governor. Will i need to wait until heavy load (plow or disc) to know if it needs adjusting?.

Thanks, Mike

All of the instructions I have ever seen say to adjust them in the shop. The linkage should push the carb closed against the idle screw on the carb when in the full up position and should limit the engine to it's rated speed at full throttle. The engine will run at 50-75 rpm less when loaded. It's best to have a manual for the particular engine for instructions.
